making friends! (and a story about Wes)

Cayla got to make some friends recently! She's been bugging us lately about letting her meet some people "a little younger than you" so we went and found some people her age.

Roan DeJong stopped over (with dad David in the picture) to hang out. The DeJongs are good friends of ours despite the fact that their dog Wes once left turds all over my old duplex. WARNING!! WARNING!! THIS STORY CONTAINS DOG POOP!! The DeJongs were leaving for a night and needed somebody to take care of Wes. David spoke highly of the dog and assured me that I would have "no problems with him." Stupidly, I agreed. I remember thinking it was strange that Wes never went poop when I walked him that Friday night. I was more surprised when the same thing happened the next morning. But the REAL surprise came a couple of days later when I found all the "presents" Wes left for me in various places around the house, including on my bed. We decided not to tell Cayla this story so her view of Roan and the DeJongs (and Wes for that matter) wouldn't be tainted. Also, if you know the DeJongs and they ever ask you to watch Wes... well, don't say I didn't warn you. We look forward to seeing Roan (one week younger) in the upcoming years!

In the other picture, CJ is playing with her second cousin Brynn, who is two months older. Brynn visited on Saturday with her mom Kami,  Leah's cousin and lifetime friend. Cayla and Brynn enjoyed hanging out together under the baby gym, probably discussing the taste of milk or how funny it is to pee when Mommy and Daddy aren't expecting it. We hope the two girls have as much fun as their moms did growing up. Ironically, Cayla lives on the same street that Leah and Kami used to play on as kids! It's cool to think that even then,
God knew the crazy young girls playing in the puddles on East 12th would one day have their own little girls that would also play on the same street!

Roan coming over to visit got us thinking. Of the people in our wedding party, four of the five guys will have had a baby within about a year time span, beginning with Corey (last October) and ending with Mike (December). And Jake, the guy who didn't, just got married last summer. So expect one next summer for them. Right Val? We even have some babies on the girls' side, with Diane expecting a baby any day and Becki due in the spring. Crazy. All this to say, Cayla will have many friends close to her age to play with, which makes us very happy! :D

PS - thanks for the shout out on Travis' blog! :)
