Our lives have been busy in this our first summer with Cayla. Here are some random tidbits:
*At the end of June, a few of my old Central friends got together for a grill out in Des Moines. Wow, it's very strange to write "old" before Central friends. Anyway, it was a great day, and Cayla (and Leah, for that matter) got to meet many of the people that played such a big role in my life. Not only did I live with many of these guys at Central (oh the stories...), but a lot of us were starting to follow Jesus for the first time and made big changes to our lives during those years. Life's taken us every which way, but it was awesome to reconnect ten years later. About 30 people came from Ohio, Colorado, California, and all over the state for a nice little potluck. Below are some Vance House guys, Wes Davis, Tim "Clog Dog" VanderWilt, Greg "Goose" Grylls, and David "D" Chen. Cayla made lots of friends.
*We recently got this sweet new ducktub from the Hopkins. The beak even quacks if you squeeze it. Nice. Cayla still loves splashing around during baths and this day was no different. She was loving it.
*One of the hard things for our family the past few months has been Uncle Floyd's passing away. He was one of the most generous guys I've ever known and left behind a legacy of making everybody feel welcome. You weren't a stranger long if you were around Floyd. At the beginning of the summer, Aunt Cindy organized a tree dedication event in their hometown of Garwin. As music was such a huge part of Floyd and Cindy's life, the afternoon was spent eating and enjoying lots of live music from the park's grandstand. Most of the family performed music in tribute to Floyd's life. A tree was also planted in Floyd's name at the park and will grow for years in the town he loved. Below is a picture of Cayla with her Aunt Lisa. We are so lucky to have so many family members who love her!

Finally, if you want to switch songs or turn the music off when you are reading the blog, go down to the bottom of the page to the jukebox.

Sorry to read that y'all lost a loved one.
Good recap. Sweet duck-tub.
I'm sorry to hear about Uncle Floyd! I LOVE the bathtub!!! I'll bet Cayla loves it too!! I like that you added music - I'm thinking about doing so too.
Love Cayla in the tub-so cute! That's great that you got to hang with the old Central guys. I know how special they were/are to you, so how awesome to connect again!
