sonshine fest (part II)

One thing about Cayla we noticed pretty early is that she likes music. We sing silly songs to her all the time and usually she loves it. For example, I sing these touching yet poignant lyrics to her almost daily: "Who's got some peepees in their diapeys? Hoot-hoot! Who's got some peepees in their diapeys? Hoot-hoot! Who's got some peepees in their diapeys? Hoot-hoot! (pause, the tension builds!) Cayla's got some peepees in her diapeys!" There are other songs we sing but I'll spare you the bad lyrics. The point is, she loves music. In fact, last week at church she decided to sing with us during worship. This involves breathing in while making a squealing sound. Very loudly. It was funny.

But loud, heavy guitars is a quite a bit different than our songs or music from her toys. We weren't sure what she would think. We brought earplugs just in case. And used them more than once. We didn't get too close to the stage. In fact, the above picture taken during the David Crowder Band show is the closest we got. Usually we were back a ways relaxing. The big screen set up by stage 1 helped quite a bit, so we mostly listened to the music while sitting in chairs or on the blanket. The picture of Switchfoot on the big screen below is about how close we were for most of the shows during the three days.

So how did Cayla do during the shows? Sometimes she enjoyed watching the action, as shown by these two pictures of her taken on Thursday at stage 2. She would watch for a bit and then get hungry or bored. Sometimes she crowd-surfed. Okay, okay, not even funny. She's not allowed to do that until she's at least 3 or 4.

And sometimes... she slept. Either like the picture below, your standard face-plant-in-blanket, or with someone (usually Leah) holding her. She was an equal opportunity sleeper. She didn't care if you were a no-name band or a headliner, or if your music was lighter or loud and heavy. More than once I looked at Leah and said, "I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE IS SLEEPING!" Leah then usually asked, "WHAT?" to which I replied, "NEVERMIND!" Cayla might be the only person on earth that can sleep during a Skillet concert.

Part III with tooth #1 coming later this week!
