boot scootin' boogie

Hey again! Wow, time flies sometimes. Okay, we have two excuses for the lack of posts lately. But you probably don't want to hear excuses, do you? No problem. I won't tell you that our camera is broken and currently getting fixed or that school just started for Jerod and work has been very busy for Leah. Now that that's out of the way...

Things have been going pretty well the last couple of weeks. Tooth #3 has been on the cusp of breaking through lately, which Cayla hasn't enjoyed too much. Subsequently, neither have we. But it will be great once it's out. Changing gears now, we asked Cayla to predict who would win the Iowa-Iowa State game this Saturday. After thinking for a moment, she reached for a ring that was colored red. My heart skipped a beat. Then she violently flicked it away from her and grabbed a gold-colored ring instead. Whew! Cayla has never been wrong on picking this game before!

We posted some pictures a while back of the positions we've found Cayla in when we get her in the morning. Lately she has been loving her frog. Many times she'll be playing with Mr. Frog when we find her. One night before we went to bed, we checked on her one last time and found this. I guess she was having a little conversation with Mr. Frog when she fell asleep.

We have to admit that it has been difficult lately as we've become more aware of her delays. Even though we have known there would be delays, it has still been frustrating. Fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and speech are three of the areas that we haven't seen a whole lot of progress lately. By Cayla's age, most kids are walking or at least crawling by now. She isn't very close to walking and hasn't made a whole lot of progress with crawling yet. But last night she did decide to scoot backwards for us. Three scoots right in a row! It was amazing and we enjoyed it so much. We are realizing that we're going to cherish every little gain she makes. In our impatience, we are reminding ourselves to trust God's timing in EVERYTHING. Our journey with Cayla is going to be unique and filled with highs and lows, but God is good and it's nice to know that He loves Cayla so much more than either of us do. This picture has nothing to do with her scooting, but it's cute! We'll try not to go 2 weeks again! (Have we said that before?)

Jerod and Cayla- it's hard isn't it to not compare. I find myself doing that ALL the time with Esias (he's 14 months and not walking or babbling) but then I have to remind myself that God created him just the way He wanted to, and that I just need to be here for him where he is! It's frustrating at times but I know God is working miracles through this two little lives (and the lives of his and her parents!)

I love the pics and I am glad you share your highs and lows. It's good to be real :) She is delightful and beautiful and regardless of what she does when, I know that she is greatly loved and adored by you two and plenty of others (including me) ... that being said, I think she's amazing and am so proud of the way she finds ways to get around even though she's not starting to walk yet ... she sure doesn't let it hold her back from getting where she wants to go!! Love, Rainey
