ice cream in the grass

One fine day recently, the Garland family decided to dip into the fine ice cream cuisine that our local McDonald's has to offer. Nothing fancy, just a couple of vanilla cones. Immediately, Cayla's interest was piqued in this towering white colossus. We had given her ice cream before, but never from a cone. Anyway, it was such a nice day that we just decided to plop her down right on the grass and let her at it. More on the grass later.

It was love at first taste. Mmmmm. And you didn't even have to chew it very much! Check out her hands in the pictures. You'll notice how they are pulled back with palms up. It's her "I am NOT touching that!" posture that she uses when she is uncomfortable or unsure about something. It was the grass. For some reason we are not aware of, Cayla hates sitting on grass.

It's probably a good thing, though. If not for this posture, she would've grabbed at the cone and ruined the whole cone experience. What's funny is that we just noticed that Cayla has her hands like that in every picture we took! The picture above is after her first couple of bites.

This is a few minutes later. I promise we didn't move the cone on purpose to get that sweet of an ice cream goatee on her. It just happened.

We love her eyes in this one. And the ice cream on her lip. And her shirt. She is pretty much in ice cream heaven in these pictures.

We did have to give Cayla a bath after the cone. But she thought it was well worth it. In fact, we got a cone at George's tonight and she watched Mom carry them around the car, turning her head around because she was strapped in to the car seat already.

Okay, once again, I promise we did not strategically place the cone to get this shot, because this is basically a professionally cut Fu Manchu, no? In fact, she looks a lot like the picture of the Hu-Hot guy if you've ever been there. Cayla: secret samurai.

Finally, a nice shot of her trying to avoid the grass. She would lift up her legs to get them off the grass. Then she would lose her balance and have to put one foot back down. Followed by picking up that foot because it was now on grass. Then losing her balance again and so on. It was a lot of fun on a great day.
