swing away or bunt?

In the sports world, summer means baseball. As I write this, the Boston Red Sox are coming off another sweep of the rival New York Yankees and hold a slight lead in the standings. Yes, all is right in the world.

In Cayla's world, things are becoming a lot more interesting to her lately. She is quite curious about things. She will now survey her surroundings in new places to check out things. She is able to make quicker movements and is getting closer to being able to crawl. She sat up by herself for a long time the other day and loves standing up (with guidance). It's been a lot of fun for us. Oh yeah, swimming lessons start tomorrow, too!! Yeah, I know, swimming lessons already??? That's what I thought. We're not worried, though. It seems like every bath lately ends up with lots of kicking and slapping of the water, grabbing of the rubber-ducky, and plenty of water flying everywhere in general. And that's just Leah. (Sorry, honey, couldn't resist.)

We've recently met with doctors to test a few things related to Down syndrome. Her ears have some fluid and she does have a slight hearing loss. We'll put tubes in soon that could stay there for around a year. Tests also revealed that she has hypothyroidism. This could delay her growth and she may need medication to control it as she grows up. Though these are setbacks, we are so thankful that her heart is strong and that she has been so healthy so far. We're expecting the road to have some rough spots but trust that God is in control.

Okay, so here are a couple pics we took with a little bat Cayla received as a gift when she was born. You can even see "Cayla Garland" on the barrel of the bat if you look close enough. Mom called a sacrifice bunt on the picture below. Great technique!
