september update #1

Hey everybody. For those of you who have been checking semi-regularly on our blog, first of all, thanks! Second of all, apologies for standing you up! We're going to try to do better this month!

*Cayla has been talking more lately! She loves to "read" to herself. She'll pull open a book in front of her and flip through the book while babbling away. She thinks she's reading it really well. Leah has claimed credit for this because of the way she reads to Cayla, with lots of voice inflections and funny voices.

*Cayla has also added some words to her repertoire. She has been saying, "Hot! Hot! Hot!" for awhile now, especially when we bring something out of the oven or microwave. She says, "Da Da" pretty well now, too, which is awesome. She is starting to get the 'mmmm" sound lately, so "Mama" is not far off. She says, "Papa" regularly. And this one is fun: she's been saying, "No" and shaking her head! It's hilarious because she doesn't always get the "n" and sometimes it sounds like, "Doh" instead. We're close to getting "bye bye" but right now it's just, "buh buh."

*She's been using her walker quite a bit downstairs, but has stalled when it comes to wanting to walk on her own. So I guess the dream of her walking at age 2 is not gonna happen. Bummer. But we'll get there. Our time table is not always going to be her time table. That we've learned.

*Cup throwing is going much better lately. She will go whole days without tossing it over the edge, which is sweet.

*Very few spit-ups lately. Yes!!!! A lot of times she'll catch it in her mouth and chew it down like cud. Thatta girl! That may have been too much information. Sorry.

*There is a new tooth. We think it's her 2-year molar, which is coming in before any of her eye teeth. Knowing that's there has made us feel better about her fussiness lately. Maybe there was a reason for it.
